Sixth Form University

Each house has a dedicated Higher Education Advisor whose responsibility is to coordinate a student's university application and , along with the student's tutor, write the student's university reference and assist in the writing of the pupil's personal statement.

Pupils are allowed 2 University visits per year in addition to one Lower Sixth visit organised by the Careers Department. Pupils plan carefully which universities they are interested in so that their visits are beneficial. There is a great deal of information available in the Careers Library and on the internet to help pupils to do this. Specific university web sites and the UCAS web site, www.ucas.co.uk hold relevant data including courses offered and entrance requirements. University visits outside of school hours, i.e. half term holidays or weekends, are encouraged to minimise disruption to lessons. Pupils must not exceed two visits in school time without prior permission from the Head of Sixth Form.

Visits should only be taken on official University Open Days. A list of these Open Days is published on the notice board outside the Careers office. Other Open Days are arranged throughout the year by individual universities. For the most up to date list therefore, pupils should check specific university web sites.

This form also includes a brief guide to getting the most out of a visit. Pupils are actively encouraged to read this guide to help them ask the relevant questions on the day
